23 million euros order cancellation European lingerie exports decline
In the first quarter of this year, exports of woven and knitted garments to Russia decreased by 6% to 194 million euros due to the cancellation of orders worth 23 million euros. This was reported by the European Fashion and Textile Export Council (EFTEC) a few weeks before the 13th Moscow Fabric Collection. The Moscow Fabric Collection was organized by Egedo and was held in Moscow from September 6-9, 2009.
According to the Eurostat, from January to May 2009, the total exports of clothing by the 15 traditional EU member states to Russia have shrunk by 15% to 638 million euros. The largest European garment exports to Russia, the supplier of Russia to Italy, have dropped above average, reaching 20%, with exports reaching 281 million euros.
France came third, losing orders of 23% with Russia's retail customers, with a total export volume of 63 million euros. The president of the European Fashion and Textile Export Board explained that this comparison means that German fashion brands benefit from a close consumer union with Russian distributors, as opposed to competitors in Italy or France.
The European Fashion and Textile Export Council analyzed the export of apparel from Europe to Russia and analyzed all major product categories for four consecutive quarters each year. An assessment of the first three months of 2009 showed that there was an increase in men's wear, women's wear and underwear Fundamental differences. Men's clothing exports to Russia dropped by 16% to 143 million euros. Male suits were the most affected, a decrease of 34%. On the other hand, exports of men's outdoor jackets to Russia rose by 4%, of which half were exports from Germany to Russia.
The chair of the European Fashion and Textile Export Council stressed that the export of women's clothing from the EU15 to Russia is better than that of men's wear, down 6% to 305 million euros. Exports of women in the EU15 to Russia increased by 17% to 39 million euros. Exports of women's outdoor jackets and jackets to Russia increased 4% to 29.5 million euros while exports of female jeans increased 15% to 12 million euros. Italian women's wear exports to Russia dropped by 16% to 106 million euros. Germany successfully maintained its exports, reaching 116 million euros in the first quarter of this year.
Exports to the EU from the EU15 dropped by 23% to 72 million euros. The European Fashion and Textile Export Council believes this is normal because the crisis affects Russian consumers spending on underwear. As a result, in the first quarter of this year, exports of men's underwear dropped by 29% to 8 million euros. Exports of lingerie, bras, women's casuals and swimwear to Russia dropped 22% to 64 million euros.
The main reason for the decline of European lingerie exports to Russia at double-digit rates was due to the French tights industry, which lost 55% of its exports to Russia due to the loss of its export orders to Russia. Italy dropped 18% and Germany dropped 6%.
